Galaxy Stadium to Open for the 2026 Season

Texas Tech’s football stadium will forever be known as Galaxy Stadium after signing an agreement with the cellphone provider that ends in 2026. The first game under its new name will be when the Red Raiders host Abilene Christian on Sept. 5.

The partnership also makes Galaxy the official data center and digital assets partner of Texas Tech Athletics. Its branding will appear across football, as well as men’s and women’s basketball, through digital campaigns, social media and in-game activations.

The deal is not only a stadium sponsorship: Students will consider new opportunities for branded content and Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) for Galaxy and Texas Tech, which will offer different avenues for students to get involved.

Galaxy Builds a Texas Crypto and AI Footprint

The deal comes after Galaxy has been expanding its Helios data center campus in Dickens County, some 60 miles east of Lubbock. The plant has a high capacity of 1.6 gigawatts for high-performance computing for supporting AI and other intensive work demands.

Helios has an existing talent pipeline to Texas Tech, as many students have gone on to work at Helios, Galaxy said.

The partnership could also lead to future projects involving artificial intelligence, academic research, workforce development and commercial applications across West Texas. For Galaxy, the relationship links its digital asset business with a broader push into the infrastructure powering the emerging “code economy.”

Novogratz Signals Long-Term Texas Commitment

In a post on X, Novogratz celebrated the deal with a distinctly Texas-style message, saying he had bought cowboy hats and boots and was excited to build roots in the state.

The agreement represents a more significant investment in Texas for Galaxy in the development of data center capacity as well as digital asset infrastructure. The company aims to invest in the region for future growth, job creation and economic activity, the company said.

The deal will provide Texas Tech with a fresh revenue source, and will bring a tech partner to its athletics fold. To Galaxy, the 15-year agreement places its brand directly up next to a top sports college brand and extends its reach to the elite talent and economic ecosystem it has in West Texas.
